BIONEER Project Takes the Stage at EC Conference on Bio-based Coatings 2025

The EC Conference – Bio-based Coatings (Eurasia Edition), taking place on October 7–8, 2025, in Istanbul, will bring together leading voices in bio-based materials and sustainability. Among the featured speakers is Dr. Susan Maleki, Research Scientist at SINTEF Industry (Norway), who will present the innovative work of the BIONEER project.

Her keynote will highlight BIONEER’s groundbreaking approach to overcoming key barriers in the shift from fossil-based to bio-based materials.

The BIONEER project addresses the limited diversity and scalability of current bio-based platform chemicals. By leveraging lignocellulosic residues—a renewable and underutilized resource—BIONEER is developing novel carbohydrate-derived molecules through a combination of microbial and chemical synthesis. Operating at TRL6/7, the project demonstrates how these new bio-based building blocks can be applied across industries, including coatings, packaging, and personal care.

BIONEER’s integrated approach not only supports the EU’s climate and circular economy goals, but also contributes to a zero-waste future by turning biomass waste into high-value, sustainable materials.
